As I drifted off (thought I was supposed to be awake for this?),
I last remembered reassuring the doctor that I had not stopped eating “Gluten”
(whatever that is) and my last meal was gooey pizza and cold IPA(s)…well had I known that was really going to be my
last meal, I would have thrown in and cupcake…or two.
When I woke up (in a different room…and again, thought I was
supposed to be awake for this), I was told that the doctor would be over in a
few minutes, meanwhile, I was thinking in my head…what exactly does gluten include…bread (wow bread comes in
so many forms) ….beer (ugh-tragic)…cookies (but I really like to bake), I looked up and the doctor was at the foot of
my bed…”The endoscopy (had to look that one up too) went well and it confirmed your
blood tests that you have ‘Celiac Disease’, so no gluten for you.”
My reaction was calm, collected and eager to learn the next
steps (when’s this medication going to wear off?!). Nutritionist…check. New
food restrictions…no problem (how hard could it be). On we go…by the way, what’s Celiac Disease?
